Exam room interview
Dr. Brian Carlsen and Lauren discuss living with type 1 diabetes and their discovery of plant-based nutrition. Topics include insulin sensitivity, the challenges of being diagnosed as a kid, and the power of food for improving quality of life.
And find out why host, Chuck Carroll, calls Lauren a “little booty kicker”.
When the patient becomes the teacher.
To level up the way we run our clinics, educate our people, and incentivize our clients, we need inspiration, information, and tactics. Specifically, hard won tactics that can only come from knowing the world of diabetes on both sides.
Lauren grew up with the futile inconsistencies of type 1 diabetes since her diagnosis at eleven years old...as well as the stifling inadequacies of the medical industry that came with it. That is, until she learned how to drastically elevate her understanding of nutrition and exercise by discovering the research and solutions to saving her own life.
Now a registered dietitian, certified diabetes care & education specialist, and global health educator, she's transforming the diabetes care industry from the inside out through lifestyle education. Because those of us who work in diabetes keep inheriting a dusty old system and yet - we’re the only ones with the power to brush off the cobwebs, open the windows, and do something life altering and new instead.
All we have to do is acknowledge the dated practices that aren’t working and that are holding US back (as well as our patients).
And dare to reinvent it.
